Wales Rally GB to commemorate the end of Group B era at Cholmondeley
Wales Rally GB will celebrate 30 years since the end of Group B with stars and cars from the era invited to Cholmondeley Castle.
This year Rallygb will move out of Wales to England and Cholmondeley, which effectively replaces the Chirk Castle spectator stage on October 29.
In November 1986, the last European WRC Group B rally, Juha Kankkunen was crowned champion, while also in competition were Stig Blomqvist, Markku Alen, Tony Pond, Malcolm Wilson, David Llewellin, Jimmy Mcrae, Russell Brookes and eventual event winner Timo Salonen.
Owners of Group B cars are invited to bring their cars, with static displays and demonstration runs planned between WRC stages. The National event will run through in the morning before the full international crews come through across the afternoon.
Managing director of Wales Rally GB, Ben Taylor, said: “It was here in Britain that most of the Group B cars last appeared on a World Rally Championship event, so we have a great opportunity to do something really special in October.
“We are inviting a number of drivers to join us and we are encouraging as many Group B cars as possible to get involved in what’s going to be an unforgettable occasion at Cholmondeley.”
