In this week’s bumper edition of Motorsport News, we reflect on some of the ground-shaking cars that have made us marvel on the sidelines.

The hardest part about putting the newspaper together was determining what to put in and what to leave out and, no doubt, you will have your own personal favourite. Please feel free to let us know what were the cars and who were stars that inspired you when you first began watching motorsport. Email us at mn.letters@haymarket.com and share your memories.

One of the most fascinating aspects is to wonder which cars we will be looking back on in a couple of decades time and think of as true icons of the modern generation. Deputy editor Robert Ladbrook has unearthed a few that we think will still stand the test of time ( see pages 56-57), but there will be plenty more.

That is the great thing about the sport that we love: it is constantly evolving, moving forwards and finding new answers to generate more and more performance from the cars. When it does that, it leaves behind some truly awe-inspiring motors, and that is what we celebrate this week. Matt James, Editor

Out of GTS and into tin-tops, the

has a short gap before its Motegi round. Eurosport’s magazine programme allows the chance to reflect on Termas di Rio Hondo round and get the latest on the championship before Japan (Saturday, 0730-0800hrs, Eurosport 1).

If you’re a rally man, there’s plenty for you to catch up on, including Rally Finland. If you’ve been under a rock, Kris Meeke achieved what Richard Burns and Colin Mcrae couldn’t by becoming the first Brit to win Rally Finland and broke the WRC’S average speed record for a single stage in the process. Craig Breen became the first Irish overall podium finisher, too. Not bad then. BT’S magazine programme brings you up to date (Saturday, 17151745hrs, BT Sport 2).

If you like rallying in circles and by EX-WRC drivers, then World Rallycross is for you. Trois-rivieres is the venue, the Canada venue supplying the seventh round of what has turned out to be a fantastic season (Wednesday, 14001500hrs, Eurosport 2).
