Even today – during a time in which cars are getting bigger – Ford’s Galaxie looks gargantuan. The sevenlitre V8 arrived in the British Saloon Car Championsh­ip, as the BTCC was then known, in 1963. Jack Sears won on the car’s debut at Silverston­e and went on to take his second drivers’ crown. Jaguar’s time as the tin-top pacesetter, which stretched back to before the BTCC had even begun, was over. American V8 power would largely dominate for the next decade.
