Mclaren denies any Apple negotiations
Mclaren has denied that it is in talks with US electronics giant Apple over a potential takeover deal.
A report in The Financial Times last week said the Woking firm had opened talks with Apple over a potential investment deal, which could even lead to a multi-million pound takeover of the firm.
The report said Mclaren Technology Group – which comprises the Mclaren F1 Team, Mclaren Automotive and Mclaren Applied Technologies – was appealing for Apple as it seeks to grow its concept of electric driverless cars.
However, when contacted for comment about the report, a Mclaren spokesperson shot down any speculation.
“We can confirm Mclaren is not in discussion with Apple in respect of any potential investment,” the spokesperson said.
“As you would expect, the nature of our brand means we regularly have confidential conversations with a wide range of parties, but we keep them confidential.”
The suggestion is Apple is instead now more focused on the development of the system behind such a car, rather than manufacturing the car itself.
