British GT4 champions Johnson and Robinson to defend crown with Optimum

-

Reigning British GT4 champions Graham Johnson and Mike Robinson will return to defend their crown next season with Optimum Motorsport.

Johnson and Robinson secured their maiden GT4 title in their second season this year, taking four wins. Their Pmw-backed Ginetta G55 will run a new livery, created by V8 Supercars designer Nick Moss.

They are the second pairing to sign up for the 2017 campaign, following Lanan Racing’s Alex Reed and Joey Foster.

“British GT was always a three-year deal for us, so coming back to defend the title with number 1 on the car will be very special,” said Johnson. “As an all-amateur pairing, Mike and I had a steep learning curve, but we work together and race together and know each other’s driving inside-out, so there’s no reason we can’t go for a second crown.”

Johnson added that he was happy to remain in GT4 beyond next season, and hasn’t ruled out a car switch.

“GT4 makes sense as it’s a thriving class and the costs are reasonable,” he added. “It will be interesting to see how the Porsche Cayman Clubsport GT4 develops next year, as we have an eye on one for 2017.”
