Meirion Evans makes DS 3 R5 debut on Cork ‘20’
Junior British Rally Championship driver Meirion Evans has bought a Citroen DS 3 R5 ahead of an entry into the Cork ‘20’ in the Irish Tarmac Championship.
The 21-year-old, son of car preparer and competitor Melvyn, won his class on the event last year in a DS 3 R3, and is hoping to use the Irish Tarmac Championship decider to bed-in his new car.
“Obviously it’s a dream to get the opportunity to drive such a car, but following the year we’ve had up to now we looked at all possible avenues before the deal was done for the Citroen to make sure we did the right thing,” said Evans. “After a difficult few months, I think we’ve done the right thing in totally resetting and taking a couple of months out of competing, we’re hungry again and raring to go.”
Evans suffered myriad mechanical problems with his Ford Fiesta R2T in the BRC this year, and elected to can his campaign before the Ulster Rally.
