Wilkes makes Jersey return in Vauxhall
Julian Wilkes will return to Jersey for the first time since 2011 later this year in his giant-killing Vauxhall Nova.
Wilkes – the 2012 and ’13 BTRDA 1400 champion – will return to the event with Guernsey native co-driver Will Rutherford-child in an event home to what he describes as his best performance on asphalt.
“We’ve been trying to do it for a few years,” said Wilkes. “Will lives on Guernsey so for him it’s his home event. I did it back in 2011 and it’s just awesome: closed road rallying, narrow granite walled-lanes. It’s a great event.
“I think that event was our best ever result on asphalt. We finished sixth overall and it was good competition with so many Millington Ford Escorts. That was our best year.”
Wilkes and Rutherford-child last competed on the Somerset Stages, winning the 1400S element of the BTRDA. They won’t compete on this year’s Wales Rally GB, but will return to the Wyedean Rally, where he finished third overall in 2012.
