More events for John and Alex Stone

-

After winning the Adgespeed Stages earlier this month, John Stone will enlist the help of his son Alex as the pair will return to action again next year.

Stone wheeled out his Ford Fiesta S2500 and won the Three Sisters-based event, with Alex in the navigator’s seat. The 19-year-old has Down’s Syndrome, and MN understands he is the first person with the syndrome to win a rally outright.

“You should have seen him going up for the trophy, it was like he’d won the 1966 World Cup,” said John Stone. “That’s his fourth rally I think. I thought we’d go in the big car and see if he could handle it and he loved it. Given the opportunity, children with Down’s Syndrome can do normal things and enjoy it.”

Stone thanked the organising club of the rally, Wigan and District Motor Club, for having a special spotter on his car, in case of any problem.

The duo are likely to return to the next event at the circuit which is scheduled for March next year, but this time in Stone’s 1.6-litre Peugeot 206.
