Alonso’s escape

-

Fernando Alonso has been allowed to keep his fifth place in the US GP after stewards ruled he did nothing wrong in his attempts to pass Felipe Massa. Alonso attacked Massa over sixth spot into Turn 16 with four laps to go, but the two made wheel-towheel contact. Alonso got ahead, while Massa picked up a puncture. Alonso said: “Felipe closed the door on me, I was already alongside him”. Massa countered: “Fernando dived into the corner I was taking and hit me. It destroyed my chance to finish sixth, or even fifth.” The stewards decided that “no driver was wholly or predominantly to blame for the collision” and no further action has been taken.
