CRAIG BREEN

-

Citroen Racing factory driver Craig Breen will start Dayinsure Wales Rally GB in a World Rally Car for the first time this week. It’s an event full of memories for him.

Could we call this your home rally? CB: “It’s as close as I’m going to get to a home rally and it always feels like my home event. Given that I’m living close to Wexford and close to the ferry, it’s probably closer for me to get to Wales than it is for me to go to the Circuit of Ireland. So yes, we can!”

Is this an event you enjoy? CB: “Definitely. It’s a rally that’s treated me quite well in the past. I’ve had some great memories from this event over the years. Obviously, this one was the home event for Gareth [Roberts, co-driver who died in 2012], so there was always a lot of support for him out on the stages.”

You’ve enjoyed success on this rally… CB: “I don’t think I’ll ever forget that WRC Academy title in 2011 when Gareth and I had to win the final stage to be champion. And then I came back the following year and won SWRC, which was really emotional.” We saw a third from you in Finland.what’s possible for you this week? CB: “So much depends on the road position and, more importantly the weather – that can make a big difference. I’m not going to say if it rains, it will rain, it’s more about how hard! If it’s just a bit wet, the road can get quite polished and it’ll be quite difficult.”

With the deal for next year in the bag, you can relax a bit… CB: “This rally is about learning and about getting as many miles under my belt as I can.”

Looking forward to it? CB: “I can’t wait. I can’t wait! I love these stages and the chance to drive them in that WR Car is just out of this world.”
