Fleming makes his Donington Rally debut

-

Ex-formula Renault and F3 driver Craig Fleming made a class-winning rally debut at Donington Park last weekend.

He took fifth at the event and class victory, with Brother Alex on the notes for the first time, who normally works for WEC team Strakka Racing.

“I came to the rally last year, liked it, fancied a go and decided to have an Mk2 Ford Escort built,” said Fleming. “I have navigated before and had an entry for the rally here in March but the car wasn’t ready.”

Two drivers made significant returns on the event. Tom Walster debuted his Suzuki Swift having not rallied since being taken to hospital in an air ambulance on the Somerset Stages. He confirmed he’ll be selecting more rallies he enjoys now.

Joining him in a return was engine builder Harvey Gibbs, on his second event back after a 16-year hiatus. He finished 14th with son Jamie on the notes in his Malcolm Wilson Martini-liveried Ford Escort RS Cosworth WRC.
