15 minutes at maximum power. “This is without doubt the most mindblowing car I have ever driven,” said Stohl. “I was sceptical at the beginning when my engineers told me to forget all I knew about a race car’s power delivery. The torque, without even the smallest ditch from 0-120mph makes you feel like you’re on a giant rubber slingshot.”

The Austrian firm has funded the concept with a view to the future.

“This project is very special. It polarises the motorsport community massively because of the ‘no engine noise’ topic,” said Stohl.

“But, even this is positive from my point of view. As a result, people discuss, argue and think about not only electric mobility, but mobility in its entirety. This is the only way we can find the really best solutions for the future.”

Volkswagen expressed an interest in the use of EV technology in rallycross earlier this year.

The only EV category in any similar discipline is the Andros Trophy Ice Racing support ‘Electrique’ category.
