British GT4 grid sells out as GT3 interest grows

-

British GT organisers are preparing a reserve list for GT4 competitors for next year after the initial grid slots sold out last week.

British GT organiser SRO opened entries for the 2017 season recently, and, as of last week, all 16 initially allocated GT4 grid slots had been accounted for, despite there being six months until the first round at Oulton Park next April.

“The entry has taken us by surprise as we didn’t expect to sell out the first batch of entries so quickly,” said British GT manager Benjamin Franassovici. “GT4 experienced a boom this year and that’s carried on. We’ll start taking reserves and conduct a selection process for entry.”

Franassovici also added that GT3 interest was growing after a difficult campaign this year, during which the grid dropped to 11 cars.

“The new GT3 formats have stirred up interest and we have new teams speaking to us regularly, so we’re looking on course to have a healthy grid in both classes,” he said.
