Formula Vee racer Jones tests a British F4 car for the first time with GW Motorsport
Formula Vee driver Alex Jones has tested a British Formula 4 car for the first time with new squad GW Motorsport.
The 23-year-old tested last Friday, alongside the team’s confirmed driver Jacky Liu. Jones previously tested in F3, though budgetary restraints stopped him from competing in the series full-time.
“The goal for next year is to get into F4 but the budget needs working out,” said Jones, who was 18th in the Vee standings this year. “Although they’ve introduced a new [Challenge] cup for next year which is supposed to be around £100,000, if you are competing for the whole year it’d definitely be into six figures.”
Formula Vee is still an option for Jones if he’s unable to race in F4. “There is the Formula Vee 50th anniversary championship, that’s something I’d like to be part of,” he said.
