Champ Tohill plans to return to European RX battle
Double European Rallycross champion Derek Tohill’s victory at the final round of the Irish Rallycross Championship at Mondello Park last weekend secured the Ford Fiesta Supercar driver his first championship crown.
Tohill began his rallycross career in the Irish series at Mondello Park and was a multiple champion in the Stock Hatch category, but hadn’t secured the overall crown until this season.
“The car was incredibly reliable all year, I had a relatively easy task this weekend to stay out of trouble, keep her between the ditches and bring it home,” said Tohill, who raced in the European Rallycross Supercar Championship this season with the car, run by his own PFCRX team.
“I’m absolutely delighted to get the monkey off my back and win the IRX. It felt incredibly difficult as I’ve not done full championships at home since my Stock Hatch days finished in 2007.
“I spent the last two events listening to every little sound from the car, which had its own challenges. I love driving at home and I love driving this Supercar so now we’ll dig deep with the plan to now move from semi-final to finals in Euro RX in 2017.”
