This means any driver tak­ing part in the cat­e­gory will stand a chance of earn­ing one of the three prizes.

The top award is 10 laps at the wheel of the Handy Motorsport Aven­sis af­ter 15 laps of in­struc­tion as a pas­sen­ger to Austin. Sec­ond prize is 15 pas­sen­ger laps along­side Austin, and third prize is 10 pas­sen­ger laps with Austin.

Belcher said: “We are de­lighted to be work­ing with Leg­ends Cars with this fan­tas­tic prize. The unique thing is the driv­ers will be scored in sev­eral ar­eas, it won’t just be on cham­pi­onship points like other BTCC prize drives of­ten are.

“Ev­ery­one has a chance, not just the few in with a shout of the ti­tle. This prize re­wards the most com­plete and pas­sion­ate driv­ers want­ing to progress.”

Austin took part in the fi­nal Leg­ends rounds at Brands Hatch last sea­son and scored a podium.

“Leg­ends Cars is a great cham­pi­onship and is a great place to hone close, com­pet­i­tive racing skills for as­pir­ing BTCC rac­ers,” he said.

“I had the chance to drive one of th­ese great cars at Brands Hatch in Novem­ber, they’re a huge amount of fun and pro­vide very close racing.”

Leg­ends owner Phil Cooper, who will be giv­ing out fur­ther in­for­ma­tion at the Autosport Show this week, said: “We are un­der­stand­ably thrilled with the prize pack­age we’ve been able to put in place with the help of Si­mon and his Handy Motorsport team.

“I hon­estly can’t think of a com­pa­ra­ble prize in club motorsport, it’s a huge devel­op­ment for the cham­pi­onship.”

The Leg­ends Cars Na­tional Cham­pi­onship kicks off at Brands Hatch on the Indy cir­cuit on March 25/26.
