Perez to graduate from Juniors to Ginetta Supercup with JHR for 2017 season

-

Ginetta Junior driver Seb Perez will step up to the GT4 Supercup for 2017, renewing his relationship with the JHR Developments team.

Perez, 17, had been testing a number of different options before settling on the Supercup with the team he finished 20th and 10th in the standings with in the Junior category in the 2015 and 2016 seasons respectively.

JHR took a season out of the Supercup last year to focus its efforts on the Juniors and British F4 and Perez is hopeful it can return to winning ways immediately.

“We’ll be with the returning JHR, hopefully we can line up a couple of drivers to join us, but I’m looking forward to getting back with the team,” he said.

“They had a lot of success with Tom Ingram [winning the championship in 2013], a really successful season with him, so hopefully we can do the same.”

Perez said sticking with a rear-wheeldrive GT car was key to the decision to head to the Supercup.

“We tried a bit of everything, the Clio, F4 and the G55. The G55 just worked best for what I’m used to with rear-wheel drive.

“I’ve been doing some rallying which has been fun. It’s nice to stick with that aspect [rear-wheel-drive].”

JHR boss Steve Hunter added: “It’s been a pleasure to work with Seb and he’s working on data engineering with the Juniors so we’ve got more than just a racing relationship.”

Hunter said the team is currently in talks with a few other drivers and plans to run up to three cars in the series.
