Porsche champion Styrin switches BRSCC codes to contest MX-5 Supercup
Three-time BRSCC Porsche Championship winner Richard Styrin will switch to the Mazda MX-5 Supercup for 2017.
Styrin, who won last season’s championship as well as back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013, will switch BRSCC championships and contest the series in a Mk3 Mazda backed by AK Automotive.
“We won the Porsche titles in 2012 and 2013 and took some time off before giving it another bash last year,” said Styrin. “After that, the thought of another season with the Porsche didn’t really fill me with much excitement.
“There’s basically dozens of winners on the [MX-5] grid. There are people from last season as well as some guys from the Compact Cup; all of them are taking part.
“This season is going to be great; the grid is huge and I haven’t a clue how I’ll get on.”
Styrin joins the likes of BMW Compact Cup champion Steve Roberts in switching to the series for 2017, while 2016 champion James BlakeBaldwin has also confirmed he will return to defend his crown.
The Mazda Supercup opens 2017 with a triple-header season opener at Brands Hatch in April.
