Northern Formula Ford 1600 champion Cowley to race Reynard 88FF at Phillip Island Classic Car Festival

-

Matthew Cowley will join a number of British drivers in competing in the Formula Ford race at the Phillip Island Classic Car Festival of Speed in March.

The 2015 Pre-’90 Northern and National champion will drive a Reynard 88FF – similar to the one he used to win those titles – at the Australian circuit, driving under the Ecurie Australie banner in a car owned by Andy Nethercote and previously raced by Rick Morris.

Ian Cowley, Matthew’s father, said: “It’s been 12 months in the planning to get to this point, it’s a good way to start the season but also to race at Phillip Island is brilliant. Brian Soule, Jennifer Mcmullen, Chris Hodgen and Jamie Jardine are all planning to head out.”

Cowley’s plans for the 2017 season will be announced in the coming weeks, but he has confirmed that he’ll be part of the Andy Priaulx Sports Management Development Programme.

Priaulx said: “Our Development Programme is designed to give the next generation of drivers the tools that I have used and benefited from during my career. With Matt signing for us, we will now be working to develop his natural talent by working on a structured programme that is designed to develop the complete motorsport athlete.”
