PEREZ FAMILY SET FOR R.A.C. RALLY

Father and son sign up for revived event

Father and son Steve and Seb Perez are among the first competitors to confirm plans to tackle the reworked Roger Albert Clark Rally in November.

While Perez senior will thrill fans by taking his stunning Lancia Stratos back into the forests, his son Seb will cap a season of racing by driving a Ford Escort Mk2 Pinto on his first major rally. Seb will turn 18 just six weeks before the rally.

Steve Perez has been a loyal supporter of the rally and originally had his Stratos built in order to contest the event that recreates the famous RAC Rallies of the 1970s.

“It’ll be Seb’s first major gravel rally, but we’ll try and get him out on something beforehand,” said Steve. “He’s got a full season’s racing in a Ginetta G55 before that. He followed me doing it in the Stratos for many years and he’s really excited about doing it himself.”

Perez senior says that the format of the relaunched rally has really captured his imagination and he expects a strong entry from Europe.

“It’s a great format and I want to make sure that people in Europe find out about it,” he said. “Lots of people talk about the R.A.C. Rally and we’re out doing mainly European Historic Championship rallies this year.”

He believes that the R.A.C. is the ideal event to take the Stratos back into the UK forests. “What put us off doing UK forest events was running at the back of the field, but this should be much better,” he added.
