Mini star Wakefield joins Excelr8 for JCWS

-

Mini Challenge returnee Mark Wakefield is aiming for a championship top three this season after joining Excelr8 Motorsport for his second season in the JCW Class.

Wakefield, 19 from Cheshire, has traditionally always run his race cars through his family Wakefield Motorsport team. He finished third overall in the Cooper Class in 2015 before graduating into the JCW division last season.

He is the third driver signed to Excelr8, following Sunoco Challenge winner Max Bladon and Reece Barr.

“This is a big year as I’ve never run with a professional team before, so it opens up a lot of opportunities for me,” said Wakefield. “We always had a tiny budget, so could only ever do one day’s testing before each round so each track we went to last year we ran the same set-up. Through corners like Coram at Snetterton my car would be trying to spit me off constantly, but with Excelr8’s set-up I’ve found I can push much harder. I want to be in the top three in the points this season.”
