Reynolds skips BTRDA with expensive Focus
Julian Reynolds has elected to pull the plug on an attack on the BTRDA Rally Series in his Ford Focus WRC08 after putting the car up for sale.
Reynolds, a regular frontrunner in national rallying and runner-up on last year’s Plains and Red Kite rallies, reckons the Focus is too costly to run.
“I had a big plan, after two rounds last year, that we’d have a big attempt at the championship this year,” said Reynolds. “The Focus is just a bit beyond me. I love driving it and it’s the best car I’ve driven. Obviously we’re competitive in it, but the hours I’d have to work to use it is beyond me. I’ve stuck it up for sale to see what happens really.”
The Focus won Wales Rally GB in the hands of Marcus Gronholm, and also won the 2016 Jack Frost Stages in the hands of works Bentley GT driver Guy Smith.
Reynolds could return in 2018 in a completely different car altogether.
“I’ve got an old Evo [Mitsubishi Lancer E6] recce car,” added Reynolds. “We tested that the other day and had a lot of fun in it, I’m tempted to go and get an Evo 9 [Lancer E9] and make a B13 [specification]. But it probably won’t be this year now as my son has just started karting.”
