Pershing

5x

-

If you’re the type of person who thinks Pershings should only be powered by a pair of thundering great Caterpillar engines turning the sea into a boiling mass of foam as the surface drives slice across it at 50 knots plus, stop reading now, you’re not going to like what’s coming next. Not only is this new ‘baby’ Pershing available with a pair of modest 750hp Volvo IPS drives for a top speed of ‘only’ 36 knots; you can also specify a Seakeeper gyro to stop it rolling around. This may seem like sacrilege, but just as Ferrari and Lamborghini have sought to make their cars less threatening to drive and easier to own, so Pershing is hoping the 5x will appeal to a new generation of buyers who don’t want to spend six months learning how to handle their boat before using it, nor for their guests to feel seasick in anything other than a flat calm bay. It seems to be working too, with seven sold in the first few days after its launch.

Other user-friendly features include a tender garage designed to take the new Williams Minijet and a huge lifting cockpit window that tucks up under the hardtop to link the inside and outside spaces. Two comfortable double ensuite cabins separated by a lower saloon and galley ensure this is far more than just a dayboat while a deadrise of 18.5 degrees should ensure it still cuts through the rough stuff. And to keep the diehards happy, you can still order a pair of 1,000hp CATS on surface drives for the full-fat experience and a 45-knot top speed.
