This unusual hybrid-engined craft wins the prize for the most innovative boat at the show. Not only is the entire hull and superstructure built out of carbon fibre but it’s powered by a combination of diesel and electric motors that enable it to run efficiently at any speed between 8 and 30 knots. At the bottom end of this speed range, two 100kw electric motors push it silently along for up to an hour using battery power alone. As soon as the batteries start to give out, one of the two main engines automatically kicks in, acting as a generator to charge the batteries and feed power to both electric motors. In this mode it burns just 11lph, giving a range of 3,500nm at 8 knots from its 5,200-litre fuel tank.

This innovative thinking continues throughout the boat with features like underfloor heating, infrared heaters over the aft cockpit, photochromic saloon doors to keep out prying eyes and showers on both the bathing platform and flybridge. Access to this vast upper deck is only possible from an internal staircase at the forward end of the saloon so the skipper can keep an eye on things. The main deck feels rather busy with an enclosed galley separating the bridge and day heads from a comparatively small saloon. Rear-view cameras replace a clear view aft during docking manoeuvres.

The accommodation is equally unconventional comprising a full-beam master and double guest suite forward with a VIP suite tucked into the stern next to the crew cabin.

Being a custom-built craft (with a price to match) much of this can be tweaked to suit but it’s always going to be a Marmite boat that will appeal to serious cruisers and technophiles alike.
