You don’t need new speakers in your boat, do you? Me neither, I’ve got a great set of Kenwood KFC-1652MRW waterproof speakers in my cockpit and had zero interest in replacing them – right up until the moment I saw these babies!

The new Mx-series from JL Audio is available in 6.5in or 7.7in sizes and are coaxial speakers, which means that they feature woofers and tweeters to accurately reproduce sound across the frequency spectrum (and to remind us of that classic Not The Nine O’clock News hifi shop sketch – “You’ve got them whether you want them or not, grandad – they’re in your speakers!”). There’s a separate sub woofer available for those that are all about that bass.

Made in Miramar, Florida, the latest models are available in white, titanium, titanium/black or chrome and are ‘true marine-grade construction’ so they won’t rust and fall apart after two seasons of use.

All of which is splendid of course, but not ground breaking. What is, is the optional LED illumination – they glow blue at night! How cool is that? From £299.99 including VAT for a pair.
