Now that my son has reached the grand old age of 14, the last thing he wants to do is go anywhere with his boring parents, least of all on a boat where there’s no Wifi and nowhere to escape. In a desperate bid to interest him in things marine, I have decided instead to restore a little mini-rib in the hopes he might prefer being the master of his own ship. Once I’d repaired the punctured tubes, I set about a full spring clean using Marine 16’s biological RIB and Jetski Cleaner. Given its name, I expected this to be the right product for cleaning the tubes as well as the hull but it was only once I’d set to work that I realised the packaging said it was for use on GRP, painted surfaces and stainless steel with no mention of inflatable tubes at all. So perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised that while it did a reasonable job of shifting loose dirt, it didn’t touch the more ingrained black marks and rust staining, which only budged with the aid of a magic sponge I had kicking about. Thankfully, Marine 16 also does a complete RIB & Jetski Cleaning Kit which includes a magic sponge, multi-surface cleaner and microfibre cloth all for £25.
