CRANCHI PELICAN 32

BUILT 2006 PRICE £64,995 ex VAT

-

A relatively rare boat, the Pelican 32 was Cranchi’s attempt to crack the sports fishing market, along with its larger sibling, the Pelican 36. Essentially it’s a Cranchi Zaffiro 32 with a few subtle changes – the most obvious of which is the hard top, but the cockpit has been altered too to suit fishing and waterports.

Ironically, this one has only ever been used on fresh water. Furthermore, its owner stored it in a heated shed over the winter months so it looks younger than its 2006 build date might suggest.

INTERIOR

Accessed by a roller-shutter door, inside it’s identical to the Zaffiro. There’s an open plan double berth in the forepeak ahead of a generous run of settee. The heads is a reasonable size, and there’s a separate mid cabin with another double berth further aft. The only really compromised area is the galley, squeezed against the aft bulkhead between the companionway steps and the mid-cabin entrance. Light wood and pale linings maximise the feeling of light and space despite the relatively small portholes.

EXTERIOR

The cockpit has a real centre console feel, with access to the double helm from both sides so the driver and navigator can come and go without having to make way for each other. Wide, deep side decks give easy access to the foredeck for crewing duties or just for enjoying the large sunpad.

Where it differs from the Zaffiro (apart from the hard top) is further aft – the usual fixed cockpit seating is absent, leaving the deck free for fishing, although there’s a pull-out bench and plenty of space for free-standing furniture catered for by the wet bar behind the helm.

PERFORMANCE

Twin Volvo Penta D4 engines were the sole option, single or petrol choices were never offered. Most got the D4-225 motors fitted to this boat, which should give a mid-30 knot top end, although some later boats got the D4-260 version.

SEAKEEPING

The Italians build stylish boats, but they also build them to go to sea, and the Pelican 32 is no exception. Expect a decent ride and good handling.
