MY FANTASY FLEET

Name: Sue Weston Current boat: Regal 2250 Berthed: Brixham

-

My introduction to life afloat was a trial sail at my local sailing club. My first boat was an old Enterprise sailing dinghy quickly swapped for a Comet Versa. Bringing the dinghy to Torquay introduced me to wider open spaces, and a friend’s 18ft Crownline speedboat soon got me hooked on fast motor boats. I now own a Regal 2250.

REGAL LS4C £82,000

I keep Dilligaf, my Regal 2250, in Brixham Marina and use it locally. But I also have a trailer and Matt (my husband) and I often take the boat away on adventures and stay aboard. We’ve cruised Bristol Docks, explored the Solent, sailed through London on the River Thames, motored along the Kennet & Avon Canal and even attempted to reach the Isles of Scilly. It’s a facet of boating I wouldn’t want to give up and I love the build quality of Regal boats, so the latest trailerable Regal would be the way I’d go, fitted with the largest Volvo Penta V8 350hp petrol engine to sate my thirst for speed. The loo not being under the bed would also be an advantage!

JEANNEAU SUN ODYSSEY 410 £217,981

Since my first boating love was dinghy sailing at the ripe old age of 50 at Durleigh Sailing Club on our local reservoir in Bridgwater, Somerset, I’d like another sailing boat. I would keep this in the Solent, the capital of the sailing world, which I have visited many times. I have been on several sailing experiences with my eldest son, and my younger son and son-in-law have also all enjoyed sailing. It is a very manageable size and the three-cabin version of this boat would accommodate us all in comfort

– it has a nice layout, plenty of space and two heads. I love my fast sportsboat but proper sailing is a totally different and equally exciting experience.

PRINCESS S65 £2,721,600

Boat three would be a huge luxurious cruiser. I’d like everything: four cabins for friends and family, sleek looks, a flybridge, a tender garage for a RIB and a top speed close to 40 knots. The Princess S65 with a pair of MAN V12 engines fits the bill. I love the sleek, sporty design and the build quality. It is big enough for the whole family and I’m sure the non-boaty members would enjoy the luxury and comfort. Being Brixham-based, I feel a sense of loyalty to a ‘locally’ made boat and have been to Plymouth with my existing boat and sailed around the factory. I would keep this in Brixham – I don’t like flying, so in our retirement we’d use it to go around the UK and the world by sea as we’ll have the time. In the meantime, the thought of having someone to maintain and clean it is wonderful.
