SENTINEL POINT 2

-

Trackers for boats that keep you informed of its position remotely and warn you if it breaches a specified geofence are nothing new, nor is remote monitoring of a boat’s systems. However, Sentinel Point 2 adds a few useful extras. As well as warning you if the boat moves or the battery runs down, it incorporates the ability to monitor tilt (useful if the boat is on a trailer) or shock, to let you know if someone has hit it (I could have done with this for Smuggler’s Blues 2 when someone hit the boat, bending the bow roller then left the scene). It can also provide temperature alerts.

If someone else is using the boat you can monitor its location, speed and course and you can also discover its position on a Google or maritime map. You can also create journey logs from 24hrs up to 30 days. It can even notify contacts if the boat does not return by a certain time.

The (fully waterproof and low voltage draw) module is small enough to be fitted to vessels like RIBS or jetskis (making that live-tracking function extremely useful for ensuring the kids are behaving themselves when out of sight) and can be fitted in about ten minutes, according to the manufacturer. It communicates using a 3G or 4G phone signal, works in 170 countries and displays via an app on your phone, tablet or computer. You can monitor more than one vessel (in fact, up to 100!), ideal for fitting to the toys of larger boats. Once purchased, the first two years of communication are free, after that it will cost you £50 per year.
