Linssen Yachts has a distinct and loyal client base. I know of owners who have dealt personally with the yard, and have found the staff to be particularly attentive, willing and enthusiastic . Like any professionally run business, however, when charges are due, the invoices arrive quickly!

Whether you want an inland waterways craft or a coast-hopping sea boat – or a mixture of both – the 410 will take them all in its stride. Owners have reported their 410 comfortable and re-assuring up to force 8 from astern, force 6 on the beam and force 7 on the nose.

They have a sturdy and simple hull shape, with the propeller and rudder protected by a skeg running aft from the keel. Clever use of notched interlocking frames and longitudinals provide torsional strength and rigidity.

Steel boats are strong and will last, but it is vital the coatings are maintained. Look around all the cracks and crevices where fresh water can lay hidden – window channels, deck radii, teak/synthetic teak deck interface, deck fittings in corners, cleat bases, chain locker etc. Rubbing strakes, shoulder sections and quarters will be most prone to paint damage due to mooring mishaps.

The engine is a 4-litre, 4-cylinder turbo diesel unit, manufactured by Deutz but marinised by Vetus. It delivers a very unstressed 140 bhp at 2,500rpm, however, it is not a mainstream engine so research the location of servicing agents and investigate its history. Check cooling fluids and waterways carefully for sludge, if the vessel has been operating in silty environments.

Ensure that the cherry veneers around the extensive windows have not faded or degraded through UV or condensation/water ingress and be mindful of hidden traps in bilges and corners, where copper wire, old crimped terminals and other metal debris could be lying around – these can rapidly create problems with plate corrosion when in a salty environment.

Finally, be very aware that these craft will only run up to 8-9 knots and usually only have one engine. Whilst they will trundle along at that speed for up to 850 miles, if you are the type of client who may suddenly want or need to get back to the office in a hurry, then look elsewhere. If, however, you are totally happy with that slower pace, then a well maintained version of this boat will look after you in comfort and classic style.
