MY FANTASY FLEET
Name: Dave Cockman Current boat: Fairline Targa 48 Berthed: Mallorca
Ilove this column as it allows my wife Nicky and I to drift into dreams of fantasy land on cold nights in the UK. I have to be honest, though, we struggled to stick to the £5 million budget so next time please make it unlimited, then we could really dream! In the real world I have been racing offshore power boats for many years, originally in the two-litre class, then RIBS, then when two of my sons joined me, we raced in the Honda series. In fact my youngest son Jack won the championship three times and my oldest Mark raced in multiple classes so speed has to be a major fact in our choices. My other son Chris has no interest in racing but enjoys the family time we spend together on our boat in Mallorca. We currently own a Fairline Targa 48 in Mallorca, an 8m Pascoe RIB in the UK and a smaller 4.5m BRIG mini RIB in our home town of Exmouth. This is our real fleet, now for our fantasy one…
CIGARETTE MARAUDER SS £850,000 (NEW)
This is my choice. I would keep it in Florida and do all the poker runs out there. I go to Florida regularly and enjoy the way of life, I am even a member of the Florida power boat club. The Cigarette would be perfect for poker runs as well as high-speed cruises along the Florida keys.
WAJER 55 £1.8 MILLION (SECONDHAND)
This is Nicky’s choice. It’s another amazing boat, which I have had the pleasure of driving once before. It looks stunning, is beautifully built and has a huge wine fridge and automatic inflating fenders so when docking she wouldn’t need to get up to help with fender duties. We would keep it in Mallorca for those endless summers and use it predominantly as a day boat with occasional overnighting when we decide to nip across to Ibiza or cruise around Mallorca.
SUNSEEKER MANHATTAN 66 £1.8 MILLION (LIGHTLY USED)
This would be our joint family boat, which we’d have moored in Porto Portals, Mallorca, as a place to stay as well as for longer distance cruising. We would have a small crew so that we could rock up to the best coves and bars and enjoy the atmosphere without the worry of mooring or the anchor not holding. But we could also use it on our own when we wanted privacy. This has everything we’d need to cruise the Med with our family. Flights to Mallorca are very reasonable, and my five grandchildren could enjoy swimming off the bathing platform in those warm waters and whizzing around in the jet tender.
