SESSA GOES GULLWING
Sessa is launching an innovative new ‘gullwing’ model at Boot Düsseldorf later this month. Called the Fly 68 Gullwing it features a pair of extra wide top-hinged doors that open on either side of the main deck like seagull wings. Electrically operated, they also fold in half as they rise to avoid extending beyond the beam of the boat. Designed in collaboration with Centrostile Design, they allow quick and easy access to both side decks as well as giving a greater connection with the sea.
Inside, Sessa has eschewed the fashionable galley aft layout in favour of placing the galley forward on the main deck adjacent to the helm. This means one of the doors opens next to a breakfast/ cocktail bar while the other opens next to the dining area to make the most of the views out. There is also an Asian layout option that deletes the lower helm altogether in favour of more seating.
On the lower deck a four-cabin, three-heads layout puts the master cabin amidships with the bathroom alongside the sleeping space rather than behind it. Sliding doors link the two to give the effect of a full beam cabin during the day. The shower and toilet are in separate smaller compartments. An alternative three cabin layout drops the galley to the lower deck.
On the outside, the flybridge is covered by a small carbon fibre T-top. The foredeck has also been designed as a socialising space with seating and sunpads.
The hull is available in three different metallic finishes: silver, pale blue and gold. Power comes from twin Volvo IPS 1050 or 1200 pod drives although a shaftdrive option powered by 1,360hp MAN V12 engines is available for those who prefer this more traditional drivetrain.
As well as launching the Fly 68 Gullwing, Sessa will also be unveiling a restyled C42 with larger topside windows and plans for a new top of the range Key Largo 37 powered by triple outboards for a top speed of up to 37 knots.
