6 SALVAGE HUNTERS
Boats.co.uk has launched a new website dedicated to the sale of boats in need of attention. Boatsalvage.co.uk caters to everything but the mainstream – boats that have been badly damaged, salvaged, stolenrecovered or are simply stock clearances.
“It brings much needed separation between our company’s core business and the distinct expertise our Essex Marina service and maintenance arm has built up over the years dealing with problems,” says managing director, James Barke. “Our expertise in that regard is quite unique, which is why we end up acquiring all sorts of interesting vessels.”
The site went live in April with several interesting salvage projects on offer.
A stylish Italian-built Morgan 44 lobster boat is advertised at just £99,950 VAT paid, which in prime condition would be worth up to £350,000. However, this one was partially submerged having gone aground on rocks off Ibiza, ripping a hole in the stern. Luckily, prompt recovery and swift removal of her twin Yanmars has saved what could have been a much more expensive repair bill.
Then there is a Beneteau Antares 13.80 available for £66,950 VAT paid. It too hit rocks after breaking free from its mooring in a gale and being completely submerged for a while. Her hull has since been properly repaired at Essex Marina but the rest of the refit work still needs doing. Non-damaged craft are available from between £100,000 and £180,000.
