The first thing you notice about Shoei’s new NXR helmet is its aerodynamic shape, giving it a sporty and purposeful look, and I think it looks great.
The helmet is equipped with a fully removable lining which incorporates Shoei’s Emergency Quick Release System. This lets you take the cheek pads out while you’re still wearing the helmet, making it safer to remove the helmet in an emergency. There was plenty of room for my glasses inside too. Also included with the NXR is a quick release breath guard and chin curtain, both of which are fitted easily and are very effective.
Visor wise, the NXR uses Shoei’s new CWR-1 visor system with a Pinlock equipped polycarbonate clear visor. The mounting plates are quick release to allow for easy changing of the visor, even with gloves on. The lightweight nature of the NXR, plus its aerodynamic shape means less pressure on your neck while riding. Ventilation wise it is superb. Three main air intakes across the forehead and one across the chin allow for great cooling input, while the large vent holes under the rear spoiler exhale warm air with great efficiency. All the vents can be opened and closed with a gloved hand.
Overall, the NXR has the look and feel of a premium helmets, making it excellent value for money. Plus, it meets ACU Gold Standards, so you can rest assured that it’s going to look after you should the worst happen.
