The first time I wore this combination it was raining and the wind was eager to broadside any unsuspecting motorcyclist. Not the most perfect of conditions for a first ride out, but bang on for a gear test, and boy, did the Touareg come out top dollar. As the name suggests, the Touareg 2 follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, and boasts a stylish touring fit. What I particularly like is the fact that with the 3-in-1 construction, it is possible to zip out the thermo liner and waterproof membrane when the temperature warms up, thereby changing from waterproofness to achieve a higher ventilation level. Zipped together, however, and you have a pretty weighty outfit, but one which is both toasty and protective. The high density polyamide shell is tear and abrasion resistant, thanks to the Ripstop fabric. I particularly found favour with the jacket’s soft neoprene collar, which has a Velcro closure and fixing popper. Having worn the combo as a 3-in-1 and then on a bright, sunny day with the linings out and vents open, the Touareg 2 performed brilliantly. Speaking of vents, there are two vertical air vent zippers in the front, one on each shoulder, each arm, and one across the upper back.

Four decent-sized pockets also adorn the front. Width adjustment on the upper arm and waist is via Velcro straps. The trousers include knee protection armour, with the outer high density fabric offering a high abrasion level. They also benefit from ventilation zips on the outer thigh, allowing for a cooler ride with the inners removed.

There are four decent pockets, and comfort is via Velcro waist adjustment. Attachment of the garments is via a short connection zipper. Wear the combination and you will glow in the dark, thanks to the retro reflective technology welding.

Apparently, the colour palette is very now. Well, it’s black actually, with slashes of that reflective silver, so if that’s retro, then who am I to argue?
