It takes all sorts

˃˃ Think owning a scooter makes you a mod? Think again.

- Dan Clare

It’s boring, for me, the sheer amount of times that either I tell someone I’m the editor at Scootering magazine, or that I pull up somewhere on my scooter, and I get the same line… “You’ve got a scooter, so you a mod then?” No, I’m not. “You into The Jam and all that sort of music then?” No, I’m not. The thing most people don’t get about the scooter scene, is that it is a multifaceted environment. Some scooter owners are indeed mods, but they can be a mod with or without the scooter. The same goes for many other factions of the scooter scene... the scooter is merely an accessory or option to them. But those who are true scooterists cannot be, by the very definition of the word, a scooterist without a scooter. Within that scooterist scene, we have a complex myriad of options, consisting mainly of Vespa and Lambretta enthusiasts… each claiming their marque is superior. We also have the modern (retro-styled) auto scooters. Within all three niches we then have various styles of scooter, ranging from ‘original only’ through to cutdowns, choppers, street racers, and probably one of the best categories (in my opinion) of all… the custom scooter scene. Custom scooters take on all different shapes, styles and sizes. The easiest way to consider it, is that the scooter being the blank canvas, for the owner to display their owner artwork or personal expression on. One of the very latest such scooters to grace the pages of our magazine is the beautiful, nay stunning, ‘Pure Acid’. This machine (seen opposite) combines the things I love the most about scooters… power, performance and paint. This scooter has it all, and is mind blowing in every way. The stunning artwork, carried out to utter perfection, and the amazing engine to back it up, just sum up scootering perfectly (for me). But as I say, scooters represent something different for everyone… not just mods.
