Scootering magazine
The best of everything from the world of classic scooters Dan Clare 35 years and still No. 1 (just)
˃˃ Tough times are upon us, it’s time for scooterists to join forces
Well, this isn’t how I thought we would be marking the 35th birthday of Scootering magazine! Of all the things the publishing and magazine industry has had to weather over the past few years, who thought the biggest impact we would ever see would be from… the flu!? Of course Cov-19 is no ordinary flu, it is devastating in every way, but I think very few people (if at all any) saw this coming. By ‘this’ I mean the effect on businesses across the world. Whether it be Carphone Warehouse, Carluccio’s, or Flybe (to name just three)… companies both big and small have gone under.
In the world of publishing, newsstand sales are temporarily paralysed, as buyers simply cannot get access to their favourite publications. Plus, the supporting ad-sale revenues are harder to come by, as businesses ‘shut up shop’ or operate on skeleton staff, whilst they too weather this storm. Of course, the pent-up demand will provide a welcome springboard when restrictions lift, but until such a time, everyone has to ‘muck in’ and help each other out, in order to get by.
To that end, my esteemed colleague Mau Spencer has been hit hard this month. As a bi-monthly title he has been hit harder than most others. I’ll not dress this up, I shall be blunt… his title has felt the full force of these troubled times and has nearly been forced to close. But as fellow scooterists we stick together, and help each other out when times are hard. Thus, you will now find a new section at the back of Scootering magazine, with CSS under our wing and incorporated into our pages as a separate section. This bodes well for us, for our readers and advertisers alike. Our subscriber base combines, our readership combines, and our ad-sales combine… it’s better for all involved, and makes us all stronger together. Win, win (Charlie Sheen moment #biwinning). As always in the scooter scene, our solidarity is our strength, and this bold move will see us through these difficult times. I’m sure many in the motorcycle industry are having to make difficult decisions too, but hopefully they will be able to find similar ‘combined strengths’ to help see each other through also.
