TRACER 9 AND TRACER 9 GT FROM YAMAHA

-

The Japanese factory has just revealed it’s all-new version of its much loved Tracer 900; and the new bikes are lighter, more powerful and dripping with the latest technology. After five years of Tracer 900, Yamaha has transformed the popular sport tourer into what it calls an all-new Tracer 9 – and there’s a GT version.

The redesigned 890cc, CP3 crossplane inline 3-cylinder engine pumps out 117bhp at 10,000rpm (4bhp more than before) and 93Nm of torque (increase of 7%). The new engine is Euro 5-friendly and lighter than the previous one. In fact, the overall weight has gone down by 2kg.

There’s a new die-cast Deltabox frame, and a more rigid, longer swingarm, both helping with weight loss and handling. The new bike also has the capacity to take panniers and top box at the same time, so you can carry more.

The Tracer 9 gets a new brain, too. A 6-axis IMU constantly sends data to the ECU, which uses the data to control the Traction Control System (TCS), Slide Control System (SCS), front wheel LIFt control system (LIF) and Brake Control system (BC). Cruise control now comes as standard equipment.

The most obvious change is the new twin TFT dash that splits the view into two. There are four ride modes, and new Bridgestone Battlax T32 Sport Touring tyres.

Fuelling system, ride-by-wire throttle, intake and exhaust have all been updated for the Tracer 9 with a longer range now available from the 18-litre tank. The seat is now 15mm lower, and the seat, screen and handlebar positions are all adjustable.

The GT version also gets a set of hard panniers, semi-active electronic suspension, an up and down quickshifter, LED cornering lights and a choice dedicated colours.

Prices have not been announced just yet, but Yamaha has confirmed both bikes will be available in dealers from March 2021.
