SPECIALIST SPOTLIGHT: SPADA

- WORDS: Bob Pickett PHOTOS: Spada

1994 was some year; and it’s hard to believe it’s been 30 years since Oasis topped the charts with Definitely Maybe and Pulp Fiction hit the big screen. It was a special year for Spada, too; the British firm launched its very first product – the 701 lightweight waterproof jacket and trousers.

That means 2024 sees the British brand celebrating its milestone 30th birthday, spearheaded by a major range refresh, rebrand and a renewed focus on ‘Ride and Wear’ gear. It’s an evolution of their ‘everywear’ philosophy launched in 2015, under the premise that great quality, goodlooking kit should be accessible to all bikers, and should integrate into a rider’s life when away from two wheels.

So, is this a case of form over function? Well, not according to Head of Development James Kent who told us that the new range had been designed to strike the perfect balance between style, protection and functionality, with the complete collection satisfying the latest CE certification. A great example of this is the development of their own armour which is designed to provide the flexibility and comfort the style of the kit requires, without comprising protection, and will be supplied as standard with all products going forward – including a back protector.

Taking a closer look at the new range, its clear to see the transformation, not just in the product but also how the brand are now presented, leaning on the brand name Spada (which is Italian for sword due to the founder’s heritage). Spada now divide their range into three core profiles, and then categorise within each profile based on three different stages of sword making: Raw, Forge and Edge. This clear three-tier hierarchy is designed to give riders in each profile a choice of product based on their individual needs. Put simply, they now have a comprehensive range of kit to suit all riders and all budgets.

From speaking with the team at Spada, and those directly involved with the relaunch, it’s clear, too, that there’s a clear focus on delivering what bikers actually want. And viewing the kit first-hand during their recent product preview, it certainly looks like they have achieved what they set out to – creating a range of riding kit which should complement your lifestyle and not just provide protection. In Spada’s own words: “The latest collection breaks down the outdated boundaries of how traditional motorbike kit should look and feel, offering innovative designs and materials that are crafted to enhance your ride, and life.”

?? ?? What better way to celebrate 30 years of business than with a serious brand refresh and bags of new kit. Let’s have a look at what Spada’s up to for 2024.
