How the other Rallycrossing Brits upheld home honour during 2015

While Liam Doran has been the only regular British competitor in World RX, the best result was achieved by 2013 British Touring Car champion Andrew Jordan at Lydden Hill in 2014.

Jordan finished third in a one-off appearance for the Olsbergsmse team that ended an almost six-year absence from the sport for the former British RX driver.

In 2015, Jordan raced twice. At Lydden Hill he drove a Peugeot 208 for Team PeugeotHansen and set a fastest heat time to make the semi-finals. He also set frontrunning pace at the Italian round of the Championship at Franciacorta while deputising for EKS team owner and driver Mattias Ekstrom. Jordan’s strong pace in practice went unrewarded however, he was forced out of the event due to engine problems in heat one.

He is actively seeking to compete in more World RX events next season, as revealed by MN in October.

Former British Rally champion Guy Wilks made his rallycross debut at Lydden Hill in 2015, driving a JRM Racingrun Mini. Wilks impressed by making it to the final in the Mini, using only a 1600cc Wrc-derived engine. Wilks returned for the French round of the championship, but was hampered by engine troubles on day one. The team repaired the car for day two, but he was pushed off in the first corner of heat three. The County Durham man is working on potential leads for next season to feature in the sport as often as he can.

Tom Onslow-cole made his first rallycross start at the Istanbul Park in Turkey, in the RX Lites category, as his prize for winning the RX Talent Search at Lydden Hill in May. The GT racer finished on the support category podium and has aspirations to compete in a Supercar in the near future.

Aside from Doran, the only other British driver to win an event in top-flight FIA rallycross since the Group B era drew to a close in 1992 is Kevin Procter, who won at Dreux, France in 2012 in the European series. Armed with a Ford Fiesta, Procter may race in selected events next season, but admits that he is unlikely to trouble the high-budget teams at the top of the championship order.

Irish drivers Ollie O’donovan and Derek Tohill both plan to compete in the FIA European Rallycross Championship in 2016. O’donovan twice made finals in 2015, while two-time European Touringcar champion Tohill will race a new Olsbergsmse-built Ford Fiesta.
