Bumper entry for TKM’S Super One classes after cost-cutting alterations

Planned changes to TKM’S Super One championships for this year have been well-received, with the initial 34-place Extreme grid filling up before Christmas.

For 2016 the TKM classes will only race at six of the nine Super One events, with five of those based around a two-day timetable that allows drivers to arrive for Saturday testing ahead of the event starting. Only the final round at PFI in September will be spread over three days.

Other cost-cutting changes have also been introduced, including TKM drivers only using one set of slick tyres per meeting and this set then being used in practice at the following round. Expensive control fuel has also been dropped from all classes.

TKM boss Alan Turney said the amount of interest in both the Extreme and TKM Junior series shows the changes have the support of drivers.

“It is a fantastic result and I am delighted as obviously are the drivers that Super One has agreed to tweak our championship to the format we requested,” he said.

“The drivers have voted with their feet. We asked their opinion and it is very clear that the changes we all wanted have totally transformed the attitude of drivers towards doing the top TKM series.”

Super One organiser John Hoyle added: “The TKM entry is amazing. I am in shock! We will be doing everything we can to give them all a great year.”

Entries remain open until the end of January and if there are sufficient numbers, Super One will consider running a second ‘B’ grid.

The TKM championships start at Rowrah in March but will not take part in the Super One rounds at Rissington, Fulbeck and Larkhall.
