FACTORY SYNCHRO HONDA TO GET FULL BRITCAR CAMPAIGN

Synchro Motorsport will race its new factory-backed Honda Civic Type R in this year’s Britcar Endurance Championship.

The team, which is run by volunteers from the Swindon Honda factory, built the majority of its new challenger from standard parts and also received help with its rollcage from the marque’s factory outfit, Team Dynamics.

The Type R made its racing debut in the Race of Remembrance at Anglesey in November of last year where it finished second. The car is likely to be raced by Martin Byford, Alyn James and Dan Wheeler this season.

Team manager Robin Tremblin said the team expected to compete in Britcar this season, while also planning outings in the Creventic 24H series races at Silverstone and Barcelona.

“This year, we’ve provisionally agreed to do it [Britcar],” he said. “The Civic is 85 per cent factory parts and even the majority of the suspension is standard. We could have gone and built a fully bespoke racing car, but we wanted to keep the car as close to production spec as possible as it’s an advert for what the Type R is capable of.

“Endurance racing fits with us because it means that the team involvement is huge in the races; it’s not just a sprint race, there’s a lot of involvement from the pit crew. The new Britcar team [headed up by Claire Hedley] has a very clear idea of what they want to do with the championship and we want to be part of it.”
