DAVIES MAKES RALLY RETURN IN ST TROPHY
Former Ford Fiesta Challenge driver Cameron Davies will compete in the new-for-2016 Fiesta ST Trophy this year.
Davies competed in the Sports 2000 circuit racing championship last year after winning the drive, but will return to rallying as part of a three-year plan to get into the World Rally Championship.
“The championship looks great,” said Davies of the series that supports the BTRDA. “I’ve driven the ST before, which is a plus, but the most attractive thing is the prize structure. I have a very clear three-year plan, to win the Trophy this year and score the free tyre deal for the BRC and then to win the Junior BRC to get into the Drive DMACK Shootout. Hopefully we can achieve that.”
Davies competed in the BTRDA in an ST car in 2013 and contested selected events the year before. He then sold the ST to buy a Fiesta R2 for the British Rally Championshipsupporting Fiesta Sport Trophy. He only competed in one event and finished second in the class, taking fifth in the standings at the end of the year.
Davies missed the seasonopening Cambrian Rally as the deal to do the championship only came off a week and a half after the event.
ST Trophy chairman John Pritchard added: “It is great news that a young up-andcoming driver such as Cameron Davies is joining the Fiesta ST Trophy. His track record and speed will provide stiff competition for all competitors, not just the other Juniors.
“The series is continuing to grow and we expect additional drivers on the Malcolm Wilson Rally, which is great news considering how new the series is.”
