Dan Johnson dominated the final at Birmingham Wheels last Saturday night.
The defending National Series champion sliced his way through the field and moved from his grid 26 starting spot to second place in just five laps.
He worked his way into the top spot two laps later and, during the remaining 12 laps, he opened up an advantage of nearly four seconds over secondplace man Craig Finnikin at the end.
Luke Davidson moved past Frankie Wainman Junior Jr to claim the last podium place, with Wainman holding on for fourth place. Wainman, 16, who is in his first full season of BRISCA, backed up his strong finish in the final by winning the Grand National, his first race win in BRISCA F1.
“I was pleased with how I went in the final, I was trying not to get too wide when they passed me and lose time as I wanted to get as many world championship qualifying points,” said Wainman.
“I got away well and had a great battle with George Elwell and Steve Whittle. After I passed them I tried not to let the pressure get to me, I was looking in the mirror the last few laps and I knew one mistake and Elwell would have got me.” Result 1 Dan Johnson; 2 Craig Finnikin; 3 Luke Davidson; 4 Frankie Wainman Junior Jr; 5 Mat Newson; 6 Lee Fairhurst; 7 Frankie Wainman Jr; 8 Stuart Smith Jr; 9 Mickey Randell; 10 Chris Cooke.
