MSA Formula rebadged as British Formula 4

-

MSA Formula has been renamed the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford with immediate effect.

The name change had been on the cards ever since Jonathan Palmer relinquished the F4 naming rights when his BRDC F4 series was rebadged as British F3 earlier this year.

Now the MSA, FIA and championship officials have agreed to change the name of Britain’s FIA F4 series.

Championship manager Sam Roach said: “Having the British F4 title is a big boost for us and it just makes things much clearer to any drivers coming in.

“Part of the problem we’ve had is that any non-british driver looking to race in the UK would search for British F4 and get the wrong championship. It was confusing and just muddied the waters.

“Now we have a clear F4 and F3 ladder in the UK again. This is also great globally for us as every country had its own FIA F4 branded championship already, so now we have a clear one too.”

FIA Single Seater Commission president Stefano Domenicali said it is essential that F4 achieves a strong base in the UK.

“The MSA Formula series was well-established in the UK, and I welcome the addition of the globally recognised F4 brand – further providing a basis to compare drivers competing in the same category around the world,” he said.

The series was introduced last year when the struggling British Formula Ford category was revamped and switched to the FIA F4-spec Mygale-ford car.
