British GT Championship leaders Jonathan Adam and Derek Johnston could equal a 10-year-old record at Oulton Park this weekend, with Adam also on the verge of becoming the most successful driver ever in the GT3 division in the UK.

TF Sport Aston Martin pairing Johnston and Adam head to the Cheshire track this weekend having won the opening two rounds of the series at Brands Hatch and Rockingham. A further victory in race one at Oulton would make them the first pairing to win the opening three races of a campaign since Tim Mullen and Chris Niarchos in 2006, and the first to win three rounds in a row since David Ashburn and Glynn Geddie in 2010.

Adam and Johnston would be the first drivers to win three in a row under the championship’s current performance balancing rules, which add additional time to pitstops.

Scotsman Adam could also become the most successful British GT3 driver ever. Adam has 10 GT3 wins to his name, one behind 2010 British GT champion David Ashburn.

“Oulton is a big weekend for us, but we’re not going in thinking about records, we’re just looking for solid points and then we’ll see what happens,” said Adam.

“We didn’t expect to win at Rockingham with the 20s success penalty, so anything is possible. With the two Oulton races being one-hour events, we only carry a 10s penalty into race one, which is down from 15s in the rules for this year, so it’s easier to overturn.

“Derek and I have clicked so well and he’s driving with great confidence in the car at the moment and Oulton is a circuit that punishes mistakes a lot, so we definitely have a chance.”
