Webster wins on GT Open debut MATT AMES
THE VOICE OF NATIONAL RACING JAMES “Loeb is coming for Solberg’s WRX crown”
Former Porsche Carrera Cup GB champion Josh Webster won on his return to Spa last weekend in the GT Open.
The 22-year-old’s last victory came in the Carrera Cup at the Belgian track. He was victorious again in the second race on Sunday, driving a Renault R.S.01 alongside Nicky Pastorelli for V8 Racing.
“It was nice to win again,” said Webster. “I’ve always liked Spa – it’s one of the tracks that rewards you for pushing on the limit.”
Webster had a late call-up to drive in the GT Open, after racing in the Renault Sport Trophy with the team earlier this month.
“Thanks to V8 Racing and GT Extreme that gave me the opportunity to race. It’s an unexpected result and hopefully there will be a few more drives on the cards, possibly in GT Open or the 24H Series.”
Joint British Touring Car Championship points leader Matt Neal will take part in the Dave Allan Trophy race at Castle Combe on Bank Holiday Monday.
The three-time BTCC champion will make a return to the event after last contesting it in 2014. He will race a Synchro Motorsport Honda Jazz in the 45-minute race, driving alongside his son Will. His eldest son Henry will also take part in a Honda Integra, with both Neal brothers racing in the Mini Challenge at Silverstone over the weekend. Henry is contesting the JCW races, while younger brother Will is racing in the Cooper Class. Matt Neal said: “I am really pleased to be racing with both my sons in this year’s Dave Allan Trophy. In previous years there has been a fantastic atmosphere and I am sure this year will be no exception. “The Dave Allan Trophy race is a brilliant opportunity for all levels of drivers to race against each other and test out Castle Combe Circuit.” The race is held in memory of the Swindon-based Honda test driver who died in an accident at the Millbrook Proving Ground in 2012.
