Sycamore survives the scrapes to snatch MX-5 victories

Jack Sycamore proved to be the Mazda MX-5 master in both wet and dry conditions as he battled to a hat-trick of victories and the overall championship lead.

He led the wet race one from pole as Ben Short and Adam Bessell duelled for second. But Sam Smith then came through to demote Bessell and quickly homed in on Short, before taking second into Sunny on lap four.

Into Sunny for the last time, Sycamore and Smith were alongside but Sycamore just held on, with Will Blackwell-chambers third, having ousted Short into Tower on the fifth lap.

In the early laps of the second race Sycamore had to fend off Blackwell-chambers and Smith, while Short fought off a six-car challenge for fourth. A couple of laps later, Short had not only breached the gap but taken third from Smith, who then came under attack from Jason Greatrex.

While Sycamore held onto his lead from Blackwell-chambers for win number two, Smith retook Short into Clervaux on the last lap and Greatrex followed at the Hairpin, as the reigning champion fell to fifth at the flag.

Although Sycamore led again from the start of race three, Smith squeezed ahead exiting the Complex on the opening lap, while Blackwell-chambers lost ground after missing a gear at the chicane.

It was wheel-to-wheel for the lead, but once Blackwell-chambers had regained third from Greatrex he closed in too. Sycamore made the decisive move at the Complex on lap seven, and on the last lap Blackwell-chambers tried for second at the same spot, forced Smith wide and claimed the place.
