The Calder clan drive around the problems to record another family double triumph

The British Sprint Championship’s visit to Snetterton provided broad grins for two members of the Calder family, with daughter Heather victorious on Saturday and father Colin grabbing the silverware on Sunday.

It was the Scottish pair’s inaugural outing in the championship this season. Despite the impressive haul of trophies, the duo struggled throughout the weekend with gear change issues. Eventually, both learned to drive around the problem by making early up-changes when they could.

Terry Holmes was struggling with his difficult V8-powered Lola Tegra too. Despite his troubles, he managed to take third place on Saturday. His trouble magnified on Sunday when he spun on the opening run. On his second run, he was able to claim sixth. John Graham was sharing the car and he managed fourth spot on Saturday and improved that to second place on Sunday with a personal best.

Behind these on both days was a two-litre tussle between the Dallara of Matt Hillam and the Van Diemen of Steve Miles.

These two battled hard, with Miles pipping Hillam by mere 100ths on Saturday. On Sunday, better times were managed and positions were reversed, Hillam getting close to the two-litre record in the process.

Behind these came the Sports Libre fraternity and the old record for this category was steadily taken apart.

Jim Belt, Matt Carter and Simon Bainbridge were all under the benchmark on Saturday and grabbed eighth, 10th and seventh spots on Saturday. They all improved on Sunday as the newly set record was beaten again as they managed P11, P9 and P7.
