HAVE YOUR SAY WE NEED YOU! GET INVOLVED WITH MN MN SAYS... Roll on the 2017 WRC season
WRITE TO US Motorsport News Haymarket Consumer Media, Bridge House, 69 London Road, Twickenham TW1 3SP Meeke’s Portugal win adds to the future spice of rallying
Kris Meeke’s victory last weekend seemed rather different to his first in Argentina last year. In Portugal, Meeke seemed to be much more in control, as David Evans has already pointed out in this issue.
Okay, it’s fair to say that Meeke had a favourable road position, and that the pressure of being in a title fight would make such a consummate drive harder to achieve. But there have been other drivers – notably Jari-matti Latvala – who haven’t looked so accomplished when in similar positions.
It’s hard to see anyone stopping Sebastien Ogier marching to another crown this season, but if Citroen and Meeke – not to mention Toyota and Hyundai – can really put together a Vw-challenging package then the 2017 World Rally Championship will be something to savour. And then they can battle at the front with similar road conditions... ● This is my last issue of Motorsport News as editor before I head to sister magazine Autosport. It’s been a thoroughly enjoyable, and interesting, last year and a half. Celebrating MN’S 60th birthday last season was a particular highlight. I wish the publication – and its dedicated, knowledgeable and hard-working staff – all the best for the future. Kevin Turner, Editor
